Eggs
The first stage of a cicada’s life cycle starts with the female mother laying her eggs underground by a tree’s roots.
Nymphs
Then the nymph hatches out of their egg, Then spends the 17 to 13 years of its life underground, sucking sap from tree root’s and growing up so when the time comes they can crawl up to the surface level. When the nymph is ready to surface, they crawl up to the ground.
Molting
Above ground they molt out of their cover. They do this on trees, treetop leaves and the ground. These cases sometimes stick to the leaves and tree trunks so it looks like there is actually a living cicada there. Once a cicada molts it only spends four to six weeks living above ground.
Adult
Then once they find a mate, the males attract the females by making that muffled chirping sound they then wait for the female to reply. The female replies with a clicking noise They find a partner and then the life cycle starts all over again. From the egg to nymph then molting and finally to the adult cicada.
